What a Nice Surprise!

My very first Blogger Award given to me by "Say What?"  I can't believe it.  I am humbled to think that others actually take time to read what I have to say.  When I started blogging, I really didn't think that anyone would be interested.  So, I thank those who do read what I post.  I pray that you would be blessed and encouraged by what you read, see, and maybe hear on my blog.  Thank you, "Say What?" for the kind gesture.

Now, I am to pass the award to other blogs that I enjoy to read.  I will definitely have fun with that.  So, here are the rules of the Versatile Blogger Award:

Thank and link back to who gave you the award.
Share 7 things about yourself.
Pass it along to 15 blogs you've recently discovered and enjoy.
Leave your recipients a note, telling them about the award.

Now, here are 7 things about me...
1.  I love coffee!  And coffee is great with dessert, especially chocolate!
2.  I like to read thriller or mystery books.  I like the authors Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti.
3.  This blogging thing is becoming an obsession.  I need to be careful... my house is a mess!
4.  I need to lose about 15 lbs!  I love to workout, when its a habit, but that habit is too far gone!  I'm not motivated!  None of my fall and winter clothes fit!  UGH!
5.  Homeschooling is a blessing, but sometimes I can make it a curse by the way I react to things.  God is working on me... Thankfully!
6.  I love being a mom.  Its hard, but such a blessing.  I love my boys.
7.  I really need to respect my husband more.  I love him, but I tend to say too much.  I need to memorize 1 Peter 3:1!!

Now, on to the blogs that I want to bless with this award:

Blessings to You All!

Scripture Memory~Mustard Seed Planting

Linking up with Mom's Mustard Seeds for some Scripture Memory.  Yes, there are several verses that I intend to memorize.  I really feel as if the Lord wants me to know how much He expects me to TRUST Him... in everything!  He not only expects me to, but He commands us to trust Him.  In Joshua 1, the Lord speaks to Joshua and asks him, "Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."  So, my verses for the next few weeks are going to be about trusting God.  My first one is..

5. Thus says the Lord, "Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength,
Whose heart departs from the Lord.
6.  For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see when good comes,
But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land which is not inhabited.

7.  Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord.
8.  For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river,
And will not fear when heat comes;
But its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought,
Nor will cease from yielding fruit."         Jeremiah 17:5-8
Yep, its a lot, but I've been meditating on it for a while now, so memorizing it shouldn't be too difficult.  We'll see...LOL!

Verse 5 is a WOW verse for me!  Every time I read it and think about it, I just want to cringe.  I think about all the times when I was happy with the way "I" handled things, how "I" was able to do this or that, and how "I" planned this or that for our homeschool.  And to think that every time I rely on my own strength... my FLESH... I am CURSED!!!  My heart has departed from the Lord!!!   Oh, I just want to hide under a rock!  And during those times I am nothing but a little ol' shrub, dry and brittle.

I really need to hide this one in my heart!  Because I rely on my own flesh too much!  May God help me.

Our First Weekly Wrap-Up

We are joining with Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers for the Weekly Wrap-Up for the first time.  I love this idea because I love to browse other homeschool blogs to see what they have been up to.  So, what have we been up to this week?

Well, first off, this was our first week!  And even though we are so far behind, I have been pretty okay with it.  Amazingly so.  What have we done?  Well, to be  honest, not anything special.  Just trying to get into the groove again.  Just the usual stuff.

My platypus and I are trying out a new spelling gig.  I call it that because we have tried spelling in the past and I have completely given up!  My son is a horrible speller!!!!  Atrocious!  Actually he's not, since he tends to spell phonetically.  And I've read that when they do that, they are actually recognizing the sounds, which makes sense, but to actually SPELL the words correctly is a problem.  So... I am going to try Natural Speller to see how he does with that.  And I am going to REQUIRE him to memorize all of the rules.  And I mean ALL of them.  So, what did we do?  We started with the 1st and 2nd grade words... (he is 6th grade!)... and I called them out to him to see what he could do.  He did very well, surprisingly.  Doing it that way, I am noticing areas where he is weak, so we will go with those word lists.  We shall see how that goes.

His math is the usual... Math Mammoth.  We really like this one.  He is doing the Division 2 workbook.   Just review for now.

Grammar is Easy Grammar.  We've never used this one, so I'm excited about it.  And so far, he seems to like it.

Now, that's all my platypus has done this week.  Like I said, we're just getting back in the groove.  My Black Belt Linguist has started his Switched on Schoolhouse and his math, which is Systematic Mathematics.  Not many people have heard of this one, so I will promote it because it is a great curriculum.  My son likes it and it is very challenging!!  My dh even struggles with it at times!!

So, that's it.  Not anything special, but maybe next week I can report something spectacular!  We'll see.

Halleluiah! Finally Our First Day of School!!

Yes, we finally did it!!  Our first day under our belt.  Everything went pretty much okay.  Phew!!

I must say, it was a miracle.  Why?

I was relaxed!!!  And boy, that IS a miracle!!  As much as I've been anxious, just the thought of being relaxed is definitely an answer to prayer!

But, what's more amazing is the fact that I was relaxed even when...

... the baby decided to scream while I was having to explain the very FIRST math problem!

... the baby needed to sleep... and wouldn't... when more math needed to be explained.

... the baby needed to be fed when grammar needed to be explained...

Are you seeing a pattern here?

Then, as we are scrambling to get out the door for Tae Kwon Do class, with a hungry, screaming baby in hand, and everyone is finally loaded in the car...

... I can't find my keys!!

Everyone scurrying around looking for those crazy keys... with a screaming baby... and they are no where to be found.

Oh well, no class today, I say.  So, hungry, screaming baby gets fed!

And I'm still relaxed!

How Amazing!!!

Did we get everything done on the plan?  Yep.

Did everyone have a good attitude?  Yep, thankfully.

Did I survive our first day with a new baby?  Yep!

Amazing!!

Our first day.  Halleluiah!

Hip Homeschool Hop!

Photobucket

I'm joining the Hip Homeschool Hop today as I am working really hard this week to get everything ready for our school year.  No, we have NOT started yet, and I feel like we are sooooooo behind!!  We have never started this late in the year, so I'm a bit anxious.  So, joining in the fun will hopefully motivate me to keep working at it.  I love to visit homeschool blogs and hope that some would visit mine.

Blessings and Happy Hopping!

Back To the Ol' Grind!

Things are seeming to get just a little easier with the new baby and all, so I guess its time to get back to the ol' grind of homeschooling!!  Today was a milestone, in that we FINALLY got our yearly records sent in to our accountability group!!  I thought we would never get that done.  So now to have a sigh of relief.

Now its time to get things together for this upcoming school year.  Yep, that's right, I haven't done that yet.  We are probably the only family who has not started their school year yet!!  But oh well, we must keep things interesting or our days would be boring.  LOL!

So hopefully I will keep this blog updated with what we are doing.  I love looking at other homeschool blogs to keep me motivated, so I will be spending some time doing that.

Please pray for me to be fruitful in this.  I need to get this done...somewhat.  I need a plan... to be organized... to be on top of things...somewhat...

Happy Planning!
